Catechism for February

Posted by Peculiar Baptist on February 25, 2008

How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?

Christ, the Son of God became man by taking to himself a true body and a reasonable soul; being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary and born of her, yet without sin.

(Heb. 2:14; Matt. 26:38; Luke 2:52; John 12:27; Luke 1:31,35; Heb. 4:15; 7:26)

Commentary on the worthlessness of the Emergent Theology

Posted by Peculiar Baptist on February 21, 2008

Saw this on Fred Butler’s blog he grabbed it from Biblical Thought. Here is a man dying in his sins and needing real theology that gives him real answers about salvation, God, and hell. He’s dying and he has no more time to fool around with pretend theology.

Now after you have watched this video go read this:

God of second chances sometimes

For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV) (emphasis mine)

How to be a Successful Evil Overlord

If Jeremy can be a Darth Lord  I guess I can be a successful evil Overlord.

How to be a Successful Evil Overlord
by Peter Anspach

Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I’ve read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I’ve noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists, or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time. With that in mind, allow me to present…

Happy Rebirthday Dan

Posted by Peculiar Baptist on February 11, 2008

Thirty five years ago the Sovereign God applied his grace to Daniel J. Phillips causing him to look to Christ for salvation.  You can read more about this here.

I like that, rebirthdays, and seeing as I’m not really that motivated to celebrate my own birthday celebrating the day that I really became alive sounds like a good idea.  Unfortunately while I remember the day that I became convicted of my sin and need for a Christ’s redeeming blood I do not recall what date that was more the pity.

So happy rebirthday Daniel may you have many more.

Catechism

Who is the Redeemer of God’s elect?

The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was and continues to be God and man, in two distinct natures and one person, forever.

(Gal. 3:13;1 Tim. 2:5; John 1:14; 1 Tim. 3:16; Rom. 9:5; Col. 2:9)

Tornadoes strike SBC University …

Posted by Peculiar Baptist on February 6, 2008

Jeremy over at Doxoblogy posted this link:

Tornadoes strike SBC university in Jackson TN.

And these verses came to mind:

Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the LORD has done it?  (Amo 3:6 ESV)

I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things.  (Isa 45:7 ESV)

God for his purposes has allowed this to happen Union University so that His glory may be manifested.  As you read about the providential preservation of the students’ life and the welcoming in the students whose dormitories were destroyed into host homes, the city is being shown how the love of the body is being manifested in practical ways.

Speaking about Romans 1

Posted by Peculiar Baptist on February 5, 2008

Remember the Church of Google?  As I said nothing different than what I have heard from atheists before.  Along comes Christopher Hitchens to prove the point.

Much thanks to James White at AOMIN.ORG
