To the slack jawed nitwit sitting two seats to my left or a little common curtsey please.

You, yes you, sitting there in the movie theatre with your cell phone out.  Despite the sign at the entrance to theatre, despite the multitude of messages flashed upon the screen politely asking, no pleading with you to shut off your phone still you have it out.  Frankly I don’t know what to think at this point I can’t discern if your just being defiant; “Trying to stick it to the man” or just a simpleton.  It doesn’t matter you have ruined one of the few pleasures I have left with my son; that is watching a movie together.

My son now in is thirties has his own circle of friends and is often in their company and while he does visit his mother and I on occasion it is not enough foe either of us.  So when he agrees to see a movie with me, a rare time indeed as I can no longer drag him to action flicks filled with bombs, bullets, and Bruce Willis.  And he will no longer sit and watch my John Wayne westerns with me.  So for us to agree on a movie to see is precious to me.  We again get to be father and son on an outing.  That last vestiges fatherhood which in some were represented by annual fishing trips, or throwing the ball to each other, is to me to go to the movies together.

But you, you don’t care do you.  You can’t see the joy I have sitting next to my son watching a movie. No you’re obsessed with that little white screen you have between your hands.  Not the giant one directly in front of you.  You don’t notice how that every time you move your hand that white flash from the LCD shines into the corner of our eyes.  Distracting us from what is going on in front of us a few brief moments of entertainment paid for us by hard earned money.

Oh sure you said sorry and pulled a contrite mien when my son leaned across me and sternly told you to shut off the cell phone.  But you didn’t sit next to him as he sat stiff and angry for the rest of the film all enjoyment of what he was seeing gone.

Frankly, you and your ilk at best deserve to be dragged out into the street by your heels strung upside down on the nearest light pole with a sign around you neck warning others of a similar fate or a fatal beating it completely depends on how many times you have fiddled with that infernal toy in your hand.

Consider yourself warned.

They were killed with the sword

Read about the latest pastors martyred in Nigeria here.  Captured by Islamic radicals in Borno State, Pastor George Orjih was threatened and commanded to leave Christ and embrace Islam to save his life.

His response? Did he open a dialogue? Did he express regret for past Christian whatevernesses? Did he say that we are all seeking God, and there are many valid paths? Did he suggest a couple of couches and some candles so they could grope together? Did he, in other words, equivocate to save his life?

No.

Pastor Orjih preached Christ to his captors.

And they beheaded him instantly.

My first thought is, What a wonderful way to go out.

I read that Pastor Orjih was working on his Master’s in Theology. I’d say he graduated, with honors.
The direction of Nigeria is of great concern. Sadly, the professedly Christian is wasted on health-and-wealth "gospel" false teaching.
But Pastor Orjih didn’t preach that, he preached Christ. And as a result, he is indeed having his best life right now.
